Welcome to The Salty Tomato food blog where you will find recipes and posts that support a flexitarian, plant centric diet and lifestyle. My kitchen is almost completely vegan but on rare occasions I indulge in animal products of the highest quality. After transforming my pantry and refrigerator in 2012, I am still learning new ways to make vegan versions of the same foods I enjoyed as a full-fledged carnivore. I started The Salty Tomato in 2013 to share my new-found passion for a flexitarian lifestyle and vegan cooking. I hope you enjoy this chronicle of all things food in my seasoned and salty life.
Posts that include meat will be labeled “Carnivore Moment.”
Posts that include eggs or dairy will be labeled “Vegetarian Moment.”
Almost ten years as a sailor in the U.S. Navy has carried me across oceans to the far corners of the globe and has opened my eyes to the world of food. The kitchen is my workshop where I can recreate flavors from my travels and create new ones to share with friends and family. Most recently I have embarked on an exploration of vegan cooking which has completely changed the way I build my plate and in the process changed my body. My husband/personal bartender Sean and I live in Hawaii where he lovingly taste tests my kitchen creations. In the Navy we refer to those that have spent many years at sea as “salty” individuals and my absolute favorite food is tomatoes. And that is how the name The Salty Tomato was born. Enjoy!
